The Haunting of a Broken Heart

"All I Ask of You" - Phantom of the Opera

It was a warm Monday evening on the 5th of September. The cool, artificial breeze welcomed me in once I entered the Venetian Theatre. I was in awe of it all. Dark silver drapes aligned the walls. A lopsided chandelier base dangled dangerously above the audience a few rows below me; so low in fact that tip-toeing would have given my little legs enough leverage to reach it. I wish I could've just so I could unscrew a lightbulb to take home as a souvenir, but I think they'd notice it was missing.

People hurried passed to their seats, careful not to spill their drinks. One by one a mixed crowd of young, old, casual and exquisitely dressed patrons filled up the plush chairs. The show was sold-out once again. The stage was completely covered behind a bright red curtain with gold trimmings. Magnificent detail surrounded the two, empty boxseats on each side. There was a reason for its vacancy, but I'll learn this soon enough.

No photography was allowed, but the sight was too stunning to resist. I left my camera in the hotel room 21 stories high just to control my urge to snap a single picture, but fortunately I brought my phone. I cautiously looked around for the ushers in their red jackets to stop patrolling the aisles, but they were alert and very strict. I had to be sneaky. Minutes before the show, before the lights dimmed, and the secrets were revealed, I switched over to my camera app and took two quick shots. The sudden flash caught the attention of a militant, short, bald Caucasian pr*ck.

"Absolutely NO pictures!" he scowled.

"Really?" I said as if I couldn't read all the signs forbidding it.

"It's not like anything started yet," I uttered under my breath, rolling my eyes.

But I did what I was told just like everyone else and tucked away my phone from view. Some people were upset that the only way they could capture this glorious venue was in their memory. I guess they weren't fast enough. But not me. I may not have gotten everything, but I did get my proof. I was definitely there, not realizing that I was about to witness an abridged version of one of the greatest romantic musicals of all time: The Phantom of the Opera.

Lyrics:

No more talk of darkness
Forget these wide eyed fears
I'm here, nothing can harm you
My words will warm and calm you

Let me be your freedom
Let daylight dry your tears
I'm here, with you, beside you
To guard you and to guide you

Say you love me every waking moment
Turn my head with talk of summertime
Say you need me with you, now and always
Promise me that all you say is true
That's all I ask of you

Let me be your shelter
Let me be your light
You're safe, no one will find you
Your fears are far behind you

All I want is freedom
A world with no more night
And you, always beside me
To hold me and to hide me

And say you'll share with me
one love, one lifetime
Let me lead you from your solitude
Say you'll need me with you here, beside you
Anywhere you go, let me go too
Christine, that's all i ask of you

Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Say the word and I will follow you
Share each day with me, each night, each morning
Say you love me
(You know I do)
Love me
That's all I ask of you

Anywhere you go, let me go too
Love me
That's all I ask of you

Welcome to People

Songs TBA Last night, I saw a special, private screening courtesy of the Screening Exchange called, "Welcome to People" directed by Alex Kurtzman. I loved it and it wasn't something that I thought I'd love. In fact, I almost changed my mind at the last minute when I saw that familiar long line down the steps at Arclight Paseo. I figured, "Hell it's just another movie." But I'm so glad I didn't turn around. I'm glad I stood in the back of the line, got my hand stamped and cell phone taken away for nearly 3-hours in order to be in a room filled with strangers. I just wish I had something with me to write down the great songs I heard that disappeared by the time I logged onto this blog. It makes me appreciate technology...so check it out when it comes out. I'll make sure I have my cell phone handy the next time I see it so I can grab some songs along the way. Oh, I'm Hannah, not Frankie and let me know what you think.

Love Is Not Blind

"Colorblind" - Counting Crows I originally had a Dave Matthews Band song in my head, but like always I'm bending the rules a little bit and going with what's in my heart. After all, I couldn't follow my last blog with something you didn't like, could I? That just wouldn't fit and this seems to do just that. This song reminds me of the movie Cruel Intentions . It's hard not to think of it. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe's chemistry was so strong, especially in their steamy love scene with this song playing in the background, that any other memory pales in comparison. I always thought the lyrics were so simple and romantic, but it became even clearer here. There was no doubt about it. I knew instantly that they were a real life couple even before they announced it. Love is obvious. Acting can never really be this good unless two people have genuine feelings for each. Look at Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in The Notebook and Angelina Jolie ...
