Sip, Bit, Look & Find

"I Want You To" - Jem

The best thing about being inspired is that it sometimes can come from nowhere and suddenly, it pulls you in and says, "Hey you, pay attention to me!" So while I was sipping my Earl Grey Latte on a warm Tuesday evening, this song popped up. I wanted to search for this before it stopped playing, but I was with a friend and didn't want to be rude so I quickly typed in "I want you to love me" (one of the most generic lyrics in the history of music) to see if I could find it later.

Later...

By the time I got home even the melody left me. Finding a song with a random set of lyrics is close to impossible and one of the most irritating things for me to do. Every love song imaginable sprang up on Google and I had absolutely no sense of direction. I wanted a starting point. Some kind of something that would remind me of it, but all I could remember was that it was upbeat by a female singer and I think it had a Spanish twist. Obviously, not much to go by and what I did have didn't narrow it down at all. Flustered, tired and practically at my wits end, I chose not to blog last night.

Today is a brand new day so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try again. Luckily, I'm distracted at work. I took a few minutes and typed in a few things, but got the same results. I asked around, but I didn't get anywhere. My co-workers gave me a blank stare and said, "Ummm... no idea!" This sucker started to bug the hell out of me. It bit hard and wouldn't let go. One of those coniving lil' critters that gets under my skin and here I was unable to catch it, smack it, let alone scratch it.

I got up from my desk and walked around a bit hoping that this would jog my memory. Shakira, J-Lo, and Selena came to mind. Indie artists like Regina Specktor and Sia got in a little too, but none of them sounded like this. This was more fun pop. Kinda made me think of funky foreign flicks or a commercial or two right before the movies at Laemmle Playhouse. I knew I was making this more complicated than it was, but now I just had to know.

The search engines were useless because I didn't even know what it was I was trying to search for anymore. Regardless, it became my mission all morning. I was determined. Minutes turned into hours. Suddenly, my determination began to fade. I was ready to log out and just forget about it (even though I knew I couldn't). Then right when I was about to call it quits, it discovered me. Would you look at that? I find it interesting that it's always when I'm not looking that my something finds me instead.

Lyrics:

Maria, salimos esta noche?
- Ay, no se.
Maria, igual encuentras un chico guapo.
- No se...estoy cansada.
¿Sabes que? Que vas a salir y serĂ¡ una gran noche.

Spinning round and I touch the ground
An' I, let go of my mind
Let the music take over my body
An' I start to unwind
Feel the heat as I rock the beat
An' I, see your sexy smile
Intense attraction, bodies like magnets
My, thoughts start to run wild

De arriba nace el amor

I want you to love me
I want you to touch me
I want you to know me
I want you to show me
I want you to love me
I want you to touch me
I want you to know me
I want you to...

Moving forward and arching back
With that, hot look in your eye
Up so close I can feel you touching me
No time to be shy
Head to head no I won't be lead
Well I, I'll put up a fight
Feel the bass, now my pulse is racing
And, I'm flying tonight

De arriba nace el amor

I want you to love me
I want you to touch me
I want you to know me
I want you to show me
I want you to love me
I want you to touch me
I want you to know me
I want you to...

De arriba nace el amor

I want you to love me
I want you to touch me
I want you to know me
I want you to show me
I want you to love me
I want you to touch me
I want you to know me (De arriba nace el amor)
I want you to show me
I want you to love me
I want you to touch me
I want you to know me (De arriba nace el amor)
I want you to...

Welcome to People

Songs TBA Last night, I saw a special, private screening courtesy of the Screening Exchange called, "Welcome to People" directed by Alex Kurtzman. I loved it and it wasn't something that I thought I'd love. In fact, I almost changed my mind at the last minute when I saw that familiar long line down the steps at Arclight Paseo. I figured, "Hell it's just another movie." But I'm so glad I didn't turn around. I'm glad I stood in the back of the line, got my hand stamped and cell phone taken away for nearly 3-hours in order to be in a room filled with strangers. I just wish I had something with me to write down the great songs I heard that disappeared by the time I logged onto this blog. It makes me appreciate technology...so check it out when it comes out. I'll make sure I have my cell phone handy the next time I see it so I can grab some songs along the way. Oh, I'm Hannah, not Frankie and let me know what you think.

Love Is Not Blind

"Colorblind" - Counting Crows I originally had a Dave Matthews Band song in my head, but like always I'm bending the rules a little bit and going with what's in my heart. After all, I couldn't follow my last blog with something you didn't like, could I? That just wouldn't fit and this seems to do just that. This song reminds me of the movie Cruel Intentions . It's hard not to think of it. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe's chemistry was so strong, especially in their steamy love scene with this song playing in the background, that any other memory pales in comparison. I always thought the lyrics were so simple and romantic, but it became even clearer here. There was no doubt about it. I knew instantly that they were a real life couple even before they announced it. Love is obvious. Acting can never really be this good unless two people have genuine feelings for each. Look at Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in The Notebook and Angelina Jolie ...

Alter Ego

"Dancing in the Dark" - Tegan & Sara (Original by Bruce Springsteen) There's nothing like a set of twin sister lesbians to start my day right. At least that's how they were introduced to me by my co-worker as we sat inside a what-used-to-be-white PT Cruiser (it needs a car wash like no other). We were driving up Alvarado street passed MacArthur Park and Korea Town when this duo first came on. It was a bit soft at first, but I couldn't remember which song it was now that I think about it. I asked him who it was and he said their names so fast I thought he sneezed! It's funny how I discover things when I'm not looking. Anyway, he mentioned he loves covers and that these gals are known for doing pretty cool ones. However, since I'm not much of a fan of duplicates I was a little skeptical at first. I like originality, but lately I've been trying things on for size to see how well they fit. Going with the flow. Expanding my picky taste buds with ...
