"She Goes All the Way" - Rascal Flatts
I like a lot of different genres of music, but there's just something about country that just sticks. Most people seem to cringe at it because it's too sad or too corny, but most of all they poke fun at it for having such long, drawn out and at times, ridiculous lines like, "Ooooooh! The cow kicked Nelly in the belly in the barn!"
That is not what a Rascal Flatts song is about...not at all.
Their voices are so harmonious and soothing that it really can take the hurt away. I know that sounds completely cheesy, but I pop in their CD just to drown out the noise of the everyday conundrum we call life...like being stuck in traffic, having too much work to do and not enough time to do it in, arguing with someone you didn't expect to argue with and all the bullshit in between.
Recently, what stuck to me is "She Goes All the Way," which to my surprise is a duet they sing with Jaime Foxx (I just didn't expect that they'd ever pair up so it was interesting to find this out when searching for their lyrics). So what's the big deal with this song and why do I somehow find myself singing it over and over again?
Well, for one reason it's an easy song to follow and sing along to, but more importantly it's about a woman that would and could do everything to make someone happy. So happy in fact that they just can't stop singing!
Some may trash it by saying it's just about sexual satisfaction or limit it to such physical pleasure. But to me, it's about surrendering to the excitement of falling in love (the euphoria we feel during the first 3 months...the beginning "puppy love" stages in hopes it would grow into a fulfilling relationship that lasts.) And in this story, it makes me feel as if it will and that hope is overwhelmingly enough to stop my pain.
I want to be that woman. I have been that woman. I know I can still be that woman.
Lyrics:
No limits, no lines are drawn
The whole world disappears when
We're alone
That thin white cotton dress is
Blowin' in the wind
She takes my hand and the dance begins
With every move she makes
I'm deeper than I've been
Holding on and letting go
She just keeps givin' in
Takin' me higher and farther
There she goes again givin' more than
She takes'
Cause it's more than love she makes
She goes all the way
No questions, no talking at all
Only the sound of our hearts as they fall
No matter what I need, her answer's
Always yes
I only have to dream and she does the
Rest
With every move she makes
I'm deeper than I've been
Holding on and letting go
She just keeps givin' in
Takin' me higher and farther
There she goes again givin' more than
She takes'
Cause it's more than love she makes
She goes all the way
Ooo, ooo, ooo
My baby goes all the way, the way
She goes all the way
My baby goes all the way
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
