"Torn" - Natalie Imbruglia
Ah, this song and all that comes along with it. I first heard it while sitting in an old Porsche 914 that smelled of exhaust and leather. It was parked next to a car lot full of brand-spankin' new Porsches and there I was, in one that was definitely out of place.
Some of its letters were missing so it only spelled out "P-O-R." Funny, because it did need a lot of work. The engine would start and stop like a death trap and often died before we'd get to where we needed to be. The parking brake would need to be pulled so high up so the car wouldn't roll away (even if it was on a flat surface). There was no power steering, no power anything. The outside screamed of a new paint job from the dusty red and burnt out black of a rooftop we'd often take down because it was always too hot and there was no A/C.
I can still see the stunned faces of the car dealers through the big, glass display windows as a young man exited the driver's side and entered their store to "browse" around. I was a little timid back then so I decided to wait in the passenger's seat with the car stereo on. I didn't want to be judged for being "out of place" too.
Little did I know that I always will be...

Lyrics:
I thought, I saw a man brought to life
He was warm, he came around and he was dignified
He showed me what it was to cry
Well, you couldn't be that man I adored
You don't seem to know
Seem to care what your heart is for
But I don't know him anymore
There's nothing where he used to lie
The conversation has run dry
That's what's going on
Nothing's fine, I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see
The perfect sky is torn
You're a little late, I'm already torn
So I guess the fortune teller's right
Should have seen just what was there
And not some holy light
It crawled beneath my veins
And now I don't care, I had no luck
I don't miss it all that much
There's just so many things
That I can touch, I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see
The perfect sky is torn
You're a little late, I'm already torn, torn
There's nothing where he used to lie
My inspiration has run dry
That's what's going on
Nothing's right, I'm torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I am shamed
Lying naked on this floor
Illusion never changed
Into something real
I'm wide awake and I can see
The perfect sky is torn
I'm all out of faith
This is how I feel
I'm cold and I'm ashamed
Bound and broken on the floor
You're a little late, I'm already torn, torn
