Retail Therapy

"Under My Tree" - NSYNC

I woke up abruptly this morning. My dream was so tangled up in my head that I couldn't, even if I tried to, explain what caused me to open my eyes too soon. It bothered me and I was still tired. This much I knew. The time read 9:00am, which to anyone who knows me would know it was way too early for me, especially for a Sunday. I tossed and turned, but my mind was done sleeping. My heart was too. I could've easily stayed in bed a while longer, watched some TV and made it another lazy day, but that's just not my style. When things bug me enough to keep me awake, that's a sign to get out of bed and do something. And that's exactly what I did.

Today was the day to stop being anti-festive. I dragged my little sis, grabbed the NSYNC Home for Christmas CD, put my game face on and took on what most would cower away from: Christmas shopping on a weekend. I knew it would be hell, but I love it when I'm in a mood to be productive and this time I had a wish list to grant. An earlier start equals a much greater advantage. This I learned in my 7-years working in retail. Don't wait until the crowd comes in and don't settle for less than what you want. I was on a mission and I knew I wasn't going to go home empty-handed.

5-hours later, powered by a Great Kahn meal and Tiramisu gelato, I rolled out with 2 pairs of knee-high boots, 3 pairs of sexy leggings, 3 pairs of comfy, furry socks, a knitted gray hoodie and the Practical Magic DVD! Did I mention that these were just for me? Hee, hee, hee! But of course I wasn't completely stingy, I also carried out a big box for my niece, stocking stuffers for 5 lucky people, 4 fun-filled bags and a special order on the way. It was so overwhelming, I had to make a trip to the car to unload in order to come back for more! It's kinda funny, I thought this year I would sulk and chicken out by giving everyone gift cards. Guess it's true what they say, shopping is definitely a great way to cope and this girl's got her strut back! Watch out malls because I ain't quite done yet!

Thanks, NSYNC. I knew you would do the trick ;).

Lyrics:

It's that time of year
Christmas is here
Everybody's back together again
Spreading the joy,
Spreading good cheer
Toasting to another year's end
So thankful for,
All of our friends
When the party is over,
The night's just begun
I promise the best part
Is yet to come
Slow dance together,
Two become one
That's what we've waited all day for

No one else but me and you
Nothing I would rather do
Then hold you all through the night
Under my tree
Bring along the mistletoe
Keep the music nice and low
I'll show you how good it could be.
I wish that Santa could be here to see
It's beautiful
Under my tree

The fire's aglow
We've got Nat King Cole
Singing us a song from his heart
Sleigh bells and snow
Makes us feel close
To the stars
When carols are sung and
The fire has died
The embers still burns with the love in our eyes
We cherish the moment
We savor the night
That's what we've waited all day for

No one else but me and you
Nothing I would rather do
Then hold you all through the night
Under my tree
Bring along the mistletoe
Keep the music nice and low
I'll show you how good it could be.
I wish that Santa could be here to see
It's beautiful
Under my tree

No one but me
No one but you
See rendez-vous (under my tree)
No one but me
No one but you

When the party is over,
The night's just begun
I promise the best part
Is yet to come
We slow dance together,
Two become one
That's what we've waited all day for

No one else but me and you
Nothing I would rather do
Then hold you all through the night
Under my tree (under my tree)
Bring along the mistletoe
Keep the music nice and low
I'll show you how good it could be.
I wish that Santa could be here to see
I wish that Santa could be here to see

No one else but me and you
Nothing I would rather do
Then make all your dreams come true
Under my tree
Such a cozy rendez-vous
Just relax enjoy the view
I'll show you how could it could be.
I wish that Santa could be here to see
It's beautiful, beautiful, beautiful under my tree

Christmas is here
It's that time of year
Christmas is here
Full of love and good cheer.

Broken

"Paradise" - Coldplay It took a while for this song to affect me, but I guess a windy drive home through an obstacle course of devastating proportions and the sudden panic of having a "State of Emergency" warning flash within my quiet hometown can change things. A lot. I didn't sleep a single minute last night. Although this isn't anything new, it's new to me to want to sleep and not get it. It was unbelievably frightening to be alone in my room with the nite-lite busted and the wind at full speed...even worse when half the roof over my head flew to the ground with a thunderous thud bringing the rest of the sleepless city to its feet. We've seen the Santa Ana winds, but never at this magnitude. It moved cars and busted windows. It rattled fences and ripped gates apart. It knocked over trashcans and picked up patio furniture like it weighed nothing. In the morning when the dust settled just enough for the hazy sun to bring some light to the mayhem, w

Soul Mates

"Once Upon A Dream" - Sleeping Beauty How funny it is that even after all these years and how far we've come with animation, this classic Disney cartoon still grabs me. Yes, I know it's silly, but it's a silly I grew up with and can't help but fall for... I know the story is so far fetched: a 16 year old girl (that looks more like a 21 year old) with gold of sunshine in her hair and lips that would shame the red, red rose sings high up in the mountain tops and suddenly attracts the man of her dreams; her soul mate! (who by golly is the prince that she has been betrothed to since she was a baby!). Unbelievable. So it's all fairytale crap, but so what? I'm not into it because of the romance! To tell you the truth, I don't even like Aurora all that much, the spoiled lil' brat. I mean, she's beautiful in EVERY way, finds out she's a princess and is going to marry into royalty on top of her royalty! I can't really sympathize... Seriousl

Welcome to People

Songs TBA Last night, I saw a special, private screening courtesy of the Screening Exchange called, "Welcome to People" directed by Alex Kurtzman. I loved it and it wasn't something that I thought I'd love. In fact, I almost changed my mind at the last minute when I saw that familiar long line down the steps at Arclight Paseo. I figured, "Hell it's just another movie." But I'm so glad I didn't turn around. I'm glad I stood in the back of the line, got my hand stamped and cell phone taken away for nearly 3-hours in order to be in a room filled with strangers. I just wish I had something with me to write down the great songs I heard that disappeared by the time I logged onto this blog. It makes me appreciate technology...so check it out when it comes out. I'll make sure I have my cell phone handy the next time I see it so I can grab some songs along the way. Oh, I'm Hannah, not Frankie and let me know what you think.
