"Black Velvet" - Alannah Myles
I gotta say this is one of those songs that just makes me feel like wearing leather, with my bangs teased up high, strapping on a hot pair of spiked heels and a laced corset. This is something I'm definitely not, but sometimes I wanna step outta my conservative shell and not care what anyone thinks. But...I don't want people to judge me as people often do. And I know you gotta wear this stuff with confidence if you wanna pull it off! So I tend to play it safe and hide behind my insecurities, but I'm bored with this.
I see girls play the part when they go out so why can't I? Why do I dress like I have a meeting at the Corporate office and not allow myself to loosen up? I'm not talking too extreme, but it'd be awesome if I can step outside of my character and be something other than me. I just wanna get some attention for a change. I'm tired of being the good girl, holding everyone's car keys and babysitting their drinks. I wanna have some fun for once and be outside of my comfort zone. I don't wanna all of sudden become a drunken slut with no care in the world. I just wanna join in the game and play like the rest of them. And this time I'm gonna win, dammit!
Lyrics:
Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell
Jimmy Rogers on the Victrola up high
Mama's dancin' with baby on her shoulder
The sun is settin' like molasses in the sky
The boy could sing, knew how to move, everything
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for
Black velvet and that little boy's smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees
Black velvet if you please
Up in Memphis the music's like a heatwave
White lightening, bound to drive you wild
Mama's baby's in the heart of every school girl
"Love me tender" leaves 'em cryin' in the aisle
The way he moved, it was a sin, so sweet and true
Always wanting more, he'd leave you longing for
Black velvet and that little boy's smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees
Black velvet if you please
Every word of every song that he sang was for you
In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon, what could
You do?
Black velvet and that little boy's smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees
Black velvet if you please
Black velvet and that little boy's smile
Black velvet with that slow southern style
A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees
Black velvet if you please
If you please, if you please, if you please
